Our Trustees

Tony Bernard

Trustee & Gaffer (Chairman)

As Stevie's Dad, l saw first hand what a talent he was at all types of sport and how he always played with a smile on his face so it seems so natural for us to try and fulfill his dream to enable every child to enjoy sport. This, alongside my love for Stevie, is my motivation and with everyone's help we will succeed in Stevies memory.

Craig Mathie

Trustee & Events Chief

Over the past 18 years, it has been my absolute privilege to help remember one of my very best mates. Building the SBF's events portfolio set me on the way to creating a career in events and proves to me, beyond any doubt, that your closest friends never leave you - sometimes they just change how they support you.

Sue Steele

Trustee & Admin Hero

I have known the Bernard family for nearly 30 years and first met my good friend, Sue, when my son Mark and Stevie became friends at playschool before growing up together. I feel extremely proud to be part of the Steve Bernard Foundation, having been the secretary since its original formation in 2006.

Mick Ryan

Trustee & Founding Father

I'm extremely proud to have been involved with the Foundation since its formation in 2006. As one of the original Directors, it gave me the opportunity to help remember a young lad I had built a great relationship with during his time at Christchurch FC and to support a family which quickly became part of my own.

Jacques Bernard

Trustee & Marathon Man

The Foundation means so much to me and being able to support and inspire so many in sport in my Brother’s name is the most poignant way to celebrate his life and keep his memory alive. My role is to take part in stupid fundraising challenges to continue to try and raise as many funds as possible to support these wonderful sporting projects and to make sure we keep doing my Brother proud!

Sue Bernard

Trustee & Official Host

Suzie B must be the most hospitable of all the SBF Trustees! As Stevie's Mum, Sue is extremely proud of the work which the SBF does and the way in which it helps to remember her lovely boy. Sue welcomes us all into the family home and makes sure that we never go without whilst supporting the SBF.

Sarah Dunsford

Trustee

The SBF is very close to my heart, its aims align completely with mine. I have always had a love for physical activity and in my work as the School Games Organiser for Bournemouth I provide opportunities to involve young people in PE and sport. My connection to the charity runs deeper having lost my sporty older brother when I was 16. I hope to be able to offer my skills and enthusiasm to SBF, I am very excited to be part of the team.

Nicholas O'Hara

Trustee

After taking semi retirement after 49 years starting and running my own family funeral directors business I was truly honoured when Tony Bernard asked would I consider being a Trustee, I didn’t hesitate and said yes. Over the years, I have sponsored the Bournemouth Youth Football League, The Dorset County Football Association U18 team, Chairman and Sponsor of Wimborne Town FC and it’s through this involvement in sport I met Tony,Sue,Jacques and Mick Ryan and have always admired what they have achieved, along with the other trustees, in making this wonderful local charity what it is today,

Michelle Love

Trustee

Michelle has worked in the accountancy field for over 25 years and qualified as an ACCA in 1998, and was a director of audit and accounts in a Top 20 firm of accountants, based in the South West. Her business experience covers a wide range of sectors, including charities, construction, care, retail, and aviation. She has advised many boards of directors working in the corporate sector, thinking outside of the box, and ensuring they met their legal and statutory requirements.

Nick Love

Trustee

Nick was a Partner in a local firm of accountants for nearly 25 years where, as well as a spell as Finance Partner, he worked with a complete cross section of owner managed and family businesses. So you may think it strange that he also advised around 50 charities, however it enabled him to bring a commercial aspect to them, drawing on the experiences of his business clients to add some valuable advice to what, in recent years, has become a rapidly changing sector facing funding challenges.

Remembering Robin Osborne

Robin played a huge role in the Steve Bernard Foundation right from its very conception. As the accountant who set up the company, he was also the first to donate with a contribution to cover the fees of its establishment. Over the years, his support for the foundation was constant and always grounded in realism. Never one for the limelight, he sat behind the scenes offering his professional expertise, innate diligence and wise counsel. He was a tremendous advocate for sport and its benefits being involved across a range of organisations in the local area. He is dearly missed by his family, friends and everyone at SBF xx
